BART
Our mission here at Urban Health Solutions is to continue to bridge the lack of preventive health education in our low income and people of color communities. Unfortunately, South Philadelphia has some of the highest HIV and STD rates in the city. The BART (Becoming a Responsible Teen) program is an HIV prevention program with a proven track record. It was designed specifically to reduce the rate of infections in our adolescent population. In our judgement free zone we talk and learn about sex. Topics include HIV, AIDS, and other STIs, condom use, birth control, consent, making sexual decisions, effective communication, getting tested, getting treatment and alcohol and drug use. We help individuals clarify their own values about sexual activity, make decisions that will help them avoid being infected with HIV/AIDS/STIs and put these decisions into action. The program is offered free of charge to individuals ages 13-24 living in the following zip codes: 19145, 19146, 19147 and 19148.
Those who complete the program will receive a certificate of completion and will be offered the opportunity to interview for a summer internship as a peer educator. The interns will assist with all aspects of the BART program and will be responsible for sharing this information with their peers. We also offer free and confidential testing and encourage everyone to know their status.
If you want to know more about your risks start with this survey.
